THE LIGHT GROUP ANNOUNCES AKIRA BACK AS EXECUTIVE CHEF AT KUMI AT MANDALAY BAY
Following the continued success of their first collaboration, Yellowtail Japanese Restaurant & Lounge at the Bellagio, The Light Group is excited to continue their partnership with renowned Executive Chef Akira Back on its latest avant-garde eatery to hit the Las Vegas Strip, Kumi by Akira Back at Mandalay Bay. With an opening scheduled for Summer 2013, Kumi will feature Chef Akira Back’s world famous cuisine – a modern Japanese menu with a Korean American twist.
“We are excited to work with Chef Akira Back for our second Japanese restaurant in Las Vegas. Just as we did with Yellowtail at Bellagio, we will together elevate the dining scene at Mandalay Bay,” said Andy Masi, CEO of The Light Group. “Chef Akira Back is a world renowned award winning chef who’s culinary creations continue to impress even the most discerning diners.”
Born in Korea and raised in Colorado, Chef Akira Back has been named “Rising Star” by Restaurant Hospitality and “Best Chef in Las Vegas” by Las Vegas Weekly. The professional snowboarder- turned- chef has worked with top celebrity chefs including Masaharu Morimoto and Nobu Matsuhisa.
Kumi will be an inviting and engaging venue, featuring modern twists on authentic Japanese design. Kumi’s 10,000 square feet of space will offer various dining areas with seating for up to 300 people. The anchor of the dining room will be Kumi’s sushi bar, featuring glazed cobalt blue tiles in a scalloped pattern inspired by common Japanese homes. Adjacent to the sushi bar will be a back rotunda with walls painted with giant interpretations of cherry blossom trees.
Kumi is one of five new venues The Light Group is opening at Mandalay Bay in 2013. LIGHT Nightclub and DAYLIGHT Beach Club will both debut over Memorial Day Weekend with an exciting and energetic opening lineup.
